"Medium" adventure trips

A normal summer would have the older young men going on a high adventure trip. Of course, this was not a normal summer. We were limited to an activity that would be close to home and would not involve an overnight campout. So, Jared came up with the idea of a "medium" adventure weekend.

One way was a "triathlon" - canoeing, biking, and running. The canoe trip was a fun trip. It was interrupted halfway through by a big lightning storm! Scott and Davis had gotten out front a little ways, and they rode it out in a culvert while the rest of us arrived at a campground right in time and just hung out sitting at picnic tables under a shelter during the downpour. It was a memorable trip!

Our bike ride was shorter than we planned due to the same storm. We dodged branches and leaves for a little over a mile until we came across a big tree that was down across the trail, so we ended up turning around.

We ran about a total of a half mile so we could say we completed all 3 legs of the medium adventure triathlon.

Day 2 of the activity was a day of playing paintball. we had a great time and left some awesome welts on some of the young men!

Our last day was a lake day. It was pretty wavy, but that made for some fun tubing! Jared especially enjoyed throwing the youth from the boats (like Nick Goldie).

The next weekend (when we were out west) the youth went and hiked Red River Gorge.

It wasn't the high adventure that the boys dreamed of, but we were certainly happy just to be together!
